Yeti

Many of you have noticed that Yeti is no longer on the website, due to his fearful nature we made him unavailable for right now. He is going into foster with a volunteer where he can relax and hopefully come out of his shell. When he is ready for a home will become adoptable again. Thank you Sam for trying to help this gentle giant.

If anyone is interested in fostering any of our other long term animals please reach out to me and I will discuss the process with you.

Photo Contest

 All,

We have a lot of open wall space in the new shelter and we’re looking for stuff to put up there. The new facility is really all about supporting and caring for our community’s animals. With that in mind, we’ve opened a photo contest and are encouraging people to submit pictures of their pets in recognizable SLO County backgrounds or landmarks. We’ll be printing off many of the best pictures and posting them as wall art throughout the building.

Check out this video for more info.

Submissions can be made on our webpage through the “SLOCo Pet-ography” link on the left hand side under “Take me to:”

If you want to post pictures of your own animals make sure you get them submitted. And, if you have friends with photogenic animals, pass the word!

Wellness Wednesday

Animals that would benefit from foster:

  • Any of the long term animals would benefit from a weekend foster, please contact Kayla if you are interested. Even if you are not currently approved we can help you go through the process.
  • Medical fosters
      • Gator- Skin issue that needs time to heal before alteration.
      • Sprinkles- Needs a foster with no other cats or be able to be separate due to FIV+
  • Behavior fosters
      • Riley- It would be amazing to know how she is in a home setting to help promote her.
      • Winny- Needs to wind down and have some positives to talk about with adopters.
      • Leo- Needs a quite environment where he can show his true self.

Med concerns:

Ongoing medical animals:

Sprinkles- Sprinkles has had some mild changes on x-ray to indicate that she may be starting to heal. We will be rechecking her in 3 weeks to confirm if there is any additional improvement.

Simba – our cystitis cat from last week was taken to Woods for adoption. We hope he will find a loving home.

Shiloh- was taken home with one of our volunteers over the weekend and was able to meet and spend time with her original finder. She will be adopted by the finder and should be home with her by tomorrow. Her leg was fully healed at her last recheck 😊

Dexter- the Boston Terrier was adopted this week by our Char, who also volunteers here.

Yeti- the big Great Pyrenees has been neutered and is now available. We hope that he will be adopted soon. He has a funny haircut from being shaved to remove all of his foxtails, but is slowly warming up and medically is doing well.

Diesel- has a little wound on his nose from a nip but should do just fine. It was cleaned and will be monitored.

Tula- her second ringworm culture is looking negative, so we hope to be able to get her out for adoption this coming week.

Gator- still receiving his medicated bathes, skin treatments and antifungal medications. You may notice that he is really starting to grow some hair back, FINALLY!

Bo- has a small hairless patch on her nose. It was checked out and no cause for concern (it isn’t ringworm 😊)

Moose- has some hairless and does have some areas of Demodex mange. This is not contagious to other dogs and he has been treated. He is going to be available with a medical waiver.

Borte- the Rott has an injury to the left eye. We are giving her pain medication to keep her comfortable and the owner will be given an order for follow up care. She is currently under vet care by her owner who has expressed interest in redeeming all of the dogs. We will be reassessing daily.

Volunteer Superhero's

I am so excited to announce the volunteer superhero's for the Months of March is Hallie!

Hallie works so hard on her SLO Lucky page, and is doing her best to find the animals forever homes. She has been volunteering here for 5 years now and recently started bumping up her commitment to the shelter animals by coming in and working with the dogs in need. She has also recruited new volunteers and continues to keep a positive attitude through all the changes we are experiencing. We are so happy that Hallie has dedicated her time to our shelter and all the needs of the animals!

THANK YOU!

Penelope/ Penny

Penelope/ Penny update...

Penny has been with my family for a week now and she's doing great!

Penny is such a loveable, sweet, well behaved addition to my family and my husband and myself feel so blessed to have her in our lives.

After Jonas's passing he left a void in our hearts. Although, he can never be replaced we feel his presence in Penny, although they are so different.

Penny went to the vet and she  was kissing the Tech throughout  the whole exam too precious.

Thanks to everyone who helped us get the sweetest girl in the world!!

Wellness Wednesday

Gator is continuing to improve and is on antifungal medications, twice weekly medicated bathes ,and fish oils. His bloodwork was good other than the chronic inflammation caused by his skin issues that were untreated for so long. He is getting better and better for his bathes and is really starting to get some hair growth coming in. You may notice that he is starting to smell a lot better these days too!

-There is a new Boston Terrier that was surrendered this week. You may notice his gooey eyes which are all as a result of him have too little tear production and an issue called dry eye. We have started him on an eye medication to help keep his eyes lubricated and hopefully producing more tears in the future. He should do great so long as he stays on this medication long term. He also has some dry/flaky skin and is getting medicated bathes.

-The BIG Great Pyrenees male is starting to warm up and is often at the front of the kennel now. We have shaved his underside and removed much of the matting and foxtails from his coat. He is getting neutered this week and they will hopefully be able to check for an remaining foxtails then. He has a few old scars from his time out on the ranch, but no active issues needing treatment currently.

-Shiloh has finally gotten her external hardware removed and has been given an all clear for her leg fracture. She will wear her cone a few more days while the pin holes heal, but hopefully she will find her own loving home very soon.
