June 15th

Good morning,

Just a quick email to you regarding the approach to mask requirements following the change in state masking requirements which is scheduled to take effect tomorrow. Here’s the bullet point run down:

  • Starting June 15, California’s face mask requirements will be changing such that 1) Individuals who are fully vaccinated against COVID are no longer required to wear masks in public (indoors or outdoors), 2) Individuals who have not been vaccinated, or who are not yet fully vaccinated, must continue to wear a mask in public.
  • The county has taken the position that members of the public will be allowed to “self-attest” to their vaccine status and that staff should not directly ask any individual about their vaccine status. Whether a person is wearing a mask or not, will be taken a an indicator of their “self-attested” vaccine status. That is to say, if they don’t have a mask on, you should presume they are vaccinated.
  • Cal OSHA has instituted a separate set of guidelines which applies to all workplaces and employees therein. This Cal OSHA requirement directs that all employees must continue to wear masks while inside the workplace. (Individuals working in closed private offices are exempt from this requirement). This requirement applies only to workers (and volunteers); members of the public are not subject to the Cal OSHA requirement.

So, how should we apply this to our operation:

  1. Members of the public are no longer required to wear a mask when entering the Animal Services facility. If they are not wearing a mask, you should presume they are vaccinated.
  2. All staff and volunteers will continue to wear masks while at Animal Services in accordance with our current COVID Mitigation Plan directions.

There should be an email coming out from County HR sometime today regarding facemasks and employees but I wanted to make sure that you had this information now so you can act / plan accordingly. Please make sure that you share this information and direction with all staff and volunteers.

Thanks,
